"Europeanization" is a fashionable but contested concept. The term is used in a number of ways to describe a variety of phenomena and processes of change. Europeanization as an analytical concept is used to examine the changes in domestic structures and policies that occur in response to policies and practices institutionalized at the European level. It stands for a process in which the European rules, mechanisms and collective understandings interact with the given domestic structures. The EU new-neighbourhood policy is an important opportunity for East-European states to strengthen their political system and develop their economy by obtaining the EU financial and political help. One of the EU basic interests is ensuring its internal and external security. The main aspect of cooperation between EU and the new neighbours in the domain of security are: combating the common threats, preventing conflicts, managing crises and promoting democracy. At the present moment EU is playing an active role in the process of Moldovan frozen conflict resolution. EU is an official member of the negotiation format, and its presence moved a little bit further the negotiation process.
