Rezumat

The involvement of the European Union (EU) within the conflict on the banks of the Dniester River in Republic of Moldova is an important factor of searching of a durable solution. European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), which started in November, 30, 2005, is an example of the EU interest in the security of this region. The EU is the main financial supporter of the Moldovan Government in the process of reforms. EU is part of the negotiation process in format 5+2, as an observer together with USA, in the conflict from the Eastern part of Republic of Moldova. Unfortunately, the Russian diplomacy plays a double game: it does not want to leave its zone of occupation from the Eastern part of Republic of Moldova and yet wants to be seen as a peacemaker and a mediator in the conflict. Until the EU will take the initiative in the negotiation process, without an clear agreement between the EU and Russia, the conflict on the banks of the Dniester River will not be solved.
