TRANSLATION AND LOCALISATION ASPECTS OF COMMUNITY LANGUAGE ABBREVIATIONS This article aims to address the general issues concerning the process of translating abbreviations used in the text of Community law. In this regard, the modalities of interpretation of translation in relation to a specialized text from the field of Community law are clarified, taking into account localization as a general strategy that guides the translator in the process of transmitting information from the source language to the target language, taking into account the cultural characteristics of the latter. Furthermore, localization is considered as an “expansion” of the boundaries of translation activity as such and is aimed at placement and adaptation in a certain cultural context, in a certain language of the translation of the text produced in the source language. Within the narrow framework of translation theory, localization is seen as a method focused on the recipient of the text in the target language and includes the adaptation of the text to its communicative and informational consumption. In order to illustrate these general postulates, we appealed to the relationships between notions and abbreviations found, using the corpus of abbreviations extracted from various acts belonging to the language of Community law in general, but also from acts concerning the integration of Moldova in the European Union. Keywords: the language of the acquis communautaire, abbreviation, logo, acronym, translation, localization.
