Abstract

EPONYMY IN THE TERMINOLOGY FROM BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING DOMAIN IN ENGLISH AND ROMANIAN This paper aims at examining the notion of eponymy presenting the way in which it is perceived within the scientific terminology. Starting from the etymology and tracing the history and evolution of eponymy, the paper then proceeds to consider the phenomenon from the perspective of the term formation providing examples from the domain of biomedical engineering in English and Romanian, each example being accompanied by a note that proves that eponyms establish the role of prominent figures and their scientific work that lead to the ultimate development of the field.
