Rezumat

In the past pronunciation was not one of the main concerns of language teaching. Taking into account the Communicative Approach which took hold in the 1980s and is currently dominant in language teaching, using language to communicate should be central in all foreign language instruction. The focus on communication while studying a foreign language brings renewed importance to the teaching of pronunciation, because the study of pronunciation does not only make students aware of different sounds and sound features but can also improve their speaking immeasurably. The present article highlights the importance of pronunciation teaching, while TEFL providing opinions of different scholars, displays a number of techniques and indicates certain internet resources applicable to develop good pronunciation skills by learners of English.
