Rezumat

In comparison with the female characters, which are fewer in number, the whole Conradian literary output abounds in male characters. R.Curle talks in his study about a list of ninety individuals, which could be extended to one hundred and ninety. Moreover, many critics claim that the male portraits need a more subtle and thorough examination than the female ones, because they are more complex and singular, regarding the justification of their psychology, which reminds of R. Browning’s dramatic monologues. Hence this article focuses on the main male characters in J. Conrad’s twelve novels in order to prove that whether they are young or old, live or die, succeed or fail, all of them contribute to the framing of the Neoromantic profile of the Conradian character by promoting general human values, emphasizing strong temperaments and consuming passions, displaying the spirit of adventure and exotism etc.
