CE ESTE SUBSTANTIVAT ÎN „SUPIN” ?*

Rezumat
The Romanian vânat type nouns (regarded, together with certain morphosequences which include them, as so called “supines”) being nouns”, are often called “substantivized supines”. This implies their having been once non-nouns, which later really became nouns the same as cântare(a). However, such an evolution of the “supine” is not confirmed by anything real. At the same time the nominal type vânat is inherited from Latin (cf. venatus), being possibly supported by a re-interpretation of participles (as in Nu bea de supărat, Aşteaptă poftit a.s.). But an evolution of supines sensu stricto (such as Lat. venatum, venatu, Rom. de vânat, la vânat ) to nouns proves to be a product of imagination.
