THE METHODOLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY EVALUATION The article studies methods for evaluating instruction in higher education. We explore student evaluations of instruction and a variety of alternatives. We develop a simple model to illustrate the biases inherent in student evaluations. The goal of our research considers methods and strategies for assessing performance in higher education. Our presentation distinguishes the traditional and alternative methodology of evaluation. We highlight that alternative assessment methods work well in learner-centered classrooms because they are based on the idea that students can evaluate their own learning and learn from the evaluation process while traditional methods do not give learners opportunities to reflect on both their linguistic development and their learning processes (what helps them learn and what might help them learn better). As a result of our research, we have concluded that alternative assessment gives instructors a way to connect assessment with review of learning strategies.
