THE COGNITIVE PARADIGM IN LINGUISTICS: HISTORY, CHALLENGES AND PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

This is a synthesis article. The main topic touched upon is the cognitive paradigm in linguistics, the place and role of cognitive linguistics in the system of other linguistic and non-linguistic disciplines. Origins of cognitivism in linguistics are traced and current research areas, principles and techniques are discussed. We also expose the challenges and eventual perspectives of the cognitive study of language.
