STRUCTURAL ETYMOLOGY: RELATIVE ETEMS
George RUSNAC Universitatea de Studii Europene din Moldova
Abstract
In approaching to the linguistic universals discovered almost two decades ago (the law of segments expression rotation and the law of meanings sinestezic changes), the author makes firm attempts to identify the close link between the units of the Romanian lexico-semantic system, therefore to shape the etymology of these units, being a new structural approach to the issue. Keywords: Etem – initial particular significance (unlike “etemem” which signifies “initial general significance”. For example: the etems „ţiuit”, „piuit”, „vâjâit”, refer to the etem „larmă” (or accepting a superior degree of abstraction, they refer to the etem „sunet”). Aloet – an expression variant connected with the very etem of the content plan. For example: the root aloets băl- (a bălăcări), bol- (a bolmoji), căl- (a călăsi, a batjocori), păl- (a pălăvrăgi), tăl- (a tălălăi), they are linked with the etem “a vorbi”.
