A MEANS TO COMPRESSING INFORMATION IN TEXT – WINGED WORDS

Abstract

Winged Greco-Latin words have always been a source of expressivity for writers. More recently, bloggers use them to express in compressed form implicit meanings and to initiate language games with their readers. Affirmation, capturing attention, mitigation sarcasm are some of communicative intentions of the authors of virtual texts when making use of famous sayings from Antiquity.
