FACULTIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHERNIVTSI (1875-1919)

During 1875-1919, Chernivtsi University was comprised of three faculties: orthodox theology, law and philosophy. The Faculty of Orthodox Theology played a special role within the University. This department was comprised of 15 full professors, of which 13 were Romanian and 2 Ukrainians. Faculty of Law was the best frequented. The Faculty of Philosophy in Chernivtsi was comprised of several departments such as philosophy, history, philology and linguistics, mathematics and natural sciences, modern languages, physics and chemistry. Just before the Great War, this Faculty was comprised of 28 departments of which 16 were specialized in philology and history while 12 were specialized in the natural sciences.
