THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY IN ORHEI

The Romano-catholic community was a part of the confessional coloring of the locality Orhei since the first half of the XIX century. The article provides the history of this community from the first information regarding it and till nowadays, not before providing shortly the history of the locality. There are provided data on the number of catholic believers in Orhei, material situation of the parish and visits of bishops of Iasi and Chisinau in the community, popular missions that took place here, situation during soviet period and community renaissance starting with years ’90 of the last century. A special attention is provided to the catholic church of the locality, built at the beginning of XX century, destroyed during communist period and rebuilt starting with 2005.
