THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR: PREMISES AND MAIN STAGES

Abstract

In the Russian-Ukrainian war in eastern Ukraine, 7 main stages can currently be established: 1) June 12, 2020 - February 24, 2022 - Ukraine’s approach to NATO, Russia’s military threats and ultimatums to the West and Ukraine, Russia’s negotiations with the EU, NATO, the US regarding Ukraine’s non-admission to NATO and their failure; 2) February 24 - March 2, 2022 - the period of the blitzkrieg, when Russia, gathering imposing military forces, managed to destroy the Ukrainian defense and conquer parts of some Ukrainian regions (Kherson, Sumy, Zhitomir, Kiev, Chernigov); 3) March 2 - April 18, 2022 - the Russian offensive loses its intensity. To strengthen its positions, Russia organizes civil-military administrations and participates in negotiations; 4) April 18 - July 3, 2022 - offensive of the Russian army in Donbass, the conquest of a part of this region, with the taking under control of or. Mariupol, Severodonetsk, Lisiceansk; 5) July 3 – August 29, 2022 – the acquisition by Ukraine of the HIMARS systems, the destruction with their help of more than 100 warehouses with Russian weapons and ammunition, the turning point in the war; 6) August 29 – November 11, 2022 – the offensive of the Ukrainian army in reg. Kharkiv and Kherson, the almost complete liberation of reg. Kharkiv and the northern part of reg. Kherson with the Kherson regional center, the explosion of the Crimean bridge. 7) From November 11, 2022 to the present – an unstable balance on the front, with some attempts at a Russian offensive in Donbas, taking control of the city of Soledar and partially - Bahmut.
