Abstract
The article analyzes the thoughts on education of Nicolae Iorga (1871-1940) - great historian, publicist, politician, writer, teacher.
One of Nicolae Iorga’s most important works is the History of Romanian Education, published in 1928 and re-edited in 1971. In this work, Nicolae Iorga made critical assessments of the various systems and projects to modernize education in Romania, supporting and promoting reforming and innovative visions. Nicolae Iorga mentioned the decisive role of the mother tongue in education and training, he insisted on the impact of the national school in the fight against what he called ,,denationalization tendencies”. In the vision of this great thinker, the main goal of education is ,,the preparation of the complete person, who does not get confused in life, but understands it, dominates it and increases it”, the contribution of teachers being a decisive one in achieving this goal.
