PSYCHOANALYTIC REFLECTIONS ON DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS. DOSTOEVSKY՚S CASE: HYSTERIA VERSUS EPILEPSY The paper presents the analysis of Freudian reflections on the procedure of differential diagnosis of hysteria versus epilepsy. Hysteria and epilepsy may have a symptomatic overlapping area and hence the need for a rigorous analysis of these clinical phenomena. The article refers to the Dostoevsky՚s case, knowing that the writer suffered from epilepsy. The Freudian hypothesis on this case cancels the diagnosis of epilepsy and considers Dostoevsky's epileptic attacks a hysterical manifestation. In the article, Freudian hypotheses on this case are related to the current criteria in the differential diagnosis of hysteria-epilepsy. This issue remains a concern of the researchers at the present moment, cause of the ability of hysteria to adapt to epochs, nosologic schemes and treatments.
