ADDRESSING PAEDOPHILIA AS A FORM OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN The term “paedophilia” is often applied in various social contexts as any sexual interest towards children or as the act of child sexual abuse. Paedophilia occurs at the age of puberty and is a lifelong affection. A risk factor is the antisocial behaviour, as well as sexual abuse in childhood, as put by many paedophiles. Some researchers believe that the stigma of paedophiles in society prevents them from seeking a specialist for treatment. The purpose of this article is to explain paedophilia and to provide information on the characteristics of those who are sexually attracted to minors. Although the article also covers some emotional issues that paedophiles can face, there is absolutely no intention of justifying their behaviour or attractions. On the contrary, the message is to urge and encourage paedophiles to use the help of specialists because they are responsible for their own sexual behaviours.
