PSYCHO-SOCIAL ASPECTS REGARDING THE CAUSES OF BURNOUT Burnout can affect not only job performance, but can become a lifestyle that affects the employee's entire life. Stress is found in all areas, and the identification of the occupational stress and its management can lead to increased job satisfaction. The phenomenon of burnout is commonly found in all age groups, especially those who are professionally active. Depending on the nature of the profession, the atmosphere within the institution (the relationship with superiors and colleagues, respectively), the way in which the individual manages their emotions in the most pressing moments, there may be a discharge of nerve energy in a direction which if not stopped, will affect not only their professional activity, but also their family. As a syndrome, burnout determines people's abilities, self-respect, causes turmoil at home, with friends or colleagues, has as an effect the decrease of success, leading to absenteeism and even job abandonment. We could say that stress (as an emotional reaction) and burnout (as its extension to higher levels - cognitive, motivational, self-esteem, etc.) can be called one of the “diseases of civilisation”. The notion of stress led to taking into account the psychological side, in the sense that it can be an activating determinant in diseases.
