Abstract

Most states, at the moment have implemented or are in the process of implementing the BASEL III agreement in order to improve their regulation and supervision system on banks activity. The recent global economic crisis that has left a deep imprint on some of the most powerful banks in the world, has once again shown that the instruments developed under the BASEL agreements are welcome but not sufficient to minimize the bankruptcy risk, creating thus a request and premises for the development of different preventive alert tools. If we analyse the situation in the Republic of Moldova, such an instrument is not developed and respectively implemented, thus determining the author's focus on the described problem. Keywords: method of discriminant analysis, banking sector, state of difficulty, bankruptcy, crisis.
