Boris PARFENTIEV Universitatea de Stat din Moldova
Abstract
During the mentioned period of this study, the whole TV broadcasting was a state monopoly and its messages were
strictly monitored and supervised. All television communications were a subject of strict censorship, as electronic media was and remain a preferred propaganda tool, especially of totalitarian propaganda. Under the vision of the communist government, television was a weapon of power and had specific tasks: educating the masses in the spirit of Marxist- Leninist doctrine, mobilizing people to achieve political and economic goals, fighting class enemies, glorifying party leadership achievements. The means used to achieve the stated goal were the deliberate selection of all events that could become sources for news, total control over the mass media sphere through possession of all resources involved in the production of audio-visual programs and by controlling messages before broadcasting. Moreover, in a totalitarian society, with its state media, the respect for the rights typical for any democratic society –
the right to inform impartially and the right to freedom of expression, the principles of editorial independence, content pluralism, impartiality, equidistance, and objectivity is out of question.
