DIVERSE ROLES OF THE MODERN LIBRARIAN AND THE NEED FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION

Abstract

The article presents the various roles of modern librarians. The author mentions the opinions and recommendations of international researchers on the need for continuing education. It argues the need for continuous study and assimilation of digital technologies to provide operational and quality library services. Opinions are presented on the advantages of online education to the professional development of specialised staff in libraries. Initial training and continuing education are analysed.

The paper reflects the views of national and international researchers on training models, the role of the data librarian, the professionalism of a librarian depending on his ability to master advanced technologies, and the motivation of staff to implement innovations in the library. Specialists reiterated that technical skills, communication, time management, leadership, planning, organization, control, decision making, etc. are essential for effective business, given that the roles and functions of librarians go beyond the acquisition, preservation, and dissemination of information.
