Abstract
In the last decades, the research sector at the European level has seen major achievements, with investment in research and development exceeding 2% of GDP. The Republic of Moldova, for now, annually allocates only 0.23% of GDP for research-development-innovation. The aim of this paper is the empirical analysis of national statistical indicators in the field of allocated resources, and the results of science obtained by researchers in the country for a period of 5 years. The general methods used are: analytical-comparative, statistical and platform data analysis. The research sector has provided remarkable results, in terms of the number of publications per million euros allocated for science, which exceed 4.2 times the average in the European states. This fact is due to the more accelerated growth of scientific results in relation to the expenditure on research and development.
Keywords: the research sector, institutions and scientific staff, funding of science, scientific results.
