Abstract

STUDY OF THE BIOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE CYANOBACTERIUM  STRAIN NOSTOC HALOPHILUM HANSG. CNMN-CB-17

A strain of cyanobacteria − Nostoc halophilum Hansg. CNMN-CB-17, was obtained in pure culture from the soils of Cimislia, Republic of Moldova. Its valuable biochemical content provides a higher amount of carbohydrates and proteins. The morphological and biochemical characteristics of the strain are presented. The biochemical composition of said strain was compared to 2 other cyanobacterial species belonging to the Nostoc genus isolated from Moldova ecosystems, revealing the presence of a relatively high content of polysaccharides.

Keywords: cyanobacteria, morphological study, isolation, biochemical composition, polysaccharides.
