Abstract

THE PECULIARITIES OF GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT AND CULTIVATION OF AMELANCHIER ALNIFOLIA NUTT. IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA 

The peculiarities of growth, propagation and cultivation of Amelanchier alnifolia Nutt. plants in the Republic of Moldova have been studied and described. The most profitable methods of propagation have been the following: sowing freshly cleaned seeds in autumn, layering done in early spring (50%) and division – in autumn (85-90%). The success rate of rooting of treated semi-lignified cuttings was 10-15% higher as compared with untreated ones. The shrub, which bears fruit early from the age of 4-5 years, can serve as a source of raw materials in the agri-food, pharmaceutical and medicinal sectors, contributing significantly to health and food security, and can be cultivated in all dendrological regions of the republic. The creation of an industrial plantation of Amelanchier alnifolia requires 400-450 or even 600 seedlings, depen-ding on the planting scheme applied.
