Abstract

The problem of in situ conservation and evaluation of Sorbus torminalis (L.) Crantz in Republic of Moldova are dis-cussed in the article. Features of the eco-biological and physiological development of the wild service tree are studied in the natural Moldavian woods, where it grows mostly as single trees or in small groups in oak, beech-oak, oak-hornbeam woods. Sorbus torminalis is spread mostly in the central part of the Codrii forestry, in northern forestry steppe and partly it may be found in Girnets nearby the villages Zloti and Kopaclia. The analysis of growth, development and periodically of the bearing of S.torminalis was made on the forestry-seed plantation, which is the single artificially made in 1976 plantation in the state forest pool in Moldova, on the area of 3,4 ha in Hincesti forestry and in the 45 year old green plantations in southern Iargara forestry ex situ. The measures for the strategy of conservation, reproduction and rational usage of biological diversity of the species are recommended.
