Abstract

COVID-19 INFLUENCE ON AMINO ACID METABOLISM IN THE MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

The male reproductive tissues, especially the testis, are attacked by SARS-CoV-2 because they co-express angiotensin convertase and TMPRSS protease, which are required for viral entry. The male reproductive system of young men is more vulnerable in COVID-19 compared to elderly patients. To maintain the health of the reproductive system it is necessary to monitor the state of protein metabolism, amino acids with antioxidant properties, especially glutathione, thioamino acids, arginine, blood serum and semen of men infected with COVID-19 for at least 3 months after the last clinical symptoms.
