Abstract
In this paper the anatomy of adaxial and abaxial epidermis of the mature leaf at the 11 grapevine species is described.
The adaxial epidermis consists from a raw of polygonal cells, compactly arranged near one to other. The abaxial epidermis
is formed from basal epidermal cells, stomata, auxiliary cells, and protector hairs. The stomatal apparatus is of
the actinocytic type and is specific for the studied species. The values of 8 biometric characters of the leaf epidermis are
calculated. It is very notable to emphasize that the stomata density per 1 mm-2 of the foliar area varies from 160.9 stomata
mm-2 at the Vitis californica Benth. to the 252.51 in the V.candicans Engelm. The adaxial epidermis cells density varies
from 1256 cells mm-2 of the foliar area in V.monticola Buckl. to 3013.3 at V.californica Benth.
