Abstract
RESPONSE OF SUNFLOWER HYBRIDS HELIANHUS ANNUUS L. TO THE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA In the context of increasing drought tendency in south-eastern Europe, sunflower has the potential to adapt to changing climatic conditions. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the interaction between genotype and environmental conditions (especially precipitation), in terms of the productivity of sunflower hybrids. Seed yields were evaluated in 21 sunflower hybrids over 6 years (2015-2020) in 5 locations from different regions of the Republic of Moldova. The results indicate positive correlations not only between the amount of precipitation during the growing season (Apr.-Sept.) but also between the amount of precipitation before the growing season (Oct.–Mar). Variance analysis (ANOVA) was used to evaluate the sources of variability. As a result, it has been shown that the agrometeorological conditions of different years and different locations are the main sources of variation of the sunflower yield, being more important than the genetic characteristics of hybrids. Keywords: sunflower, precipitation, environmental conditions, yield, variability.
