Abstract

THE ROLE OF ONCOPROTECTIVE MEDICINAL PLANTS AND REMEDIES BASED ON THEM IN ANTI-CANCER THERAPIES In the article, some relevant mechanisms of action of oncoprotective medicinal plants and remedies based on them in complementary anticancer therapies were elucidated. Given the side effects, toxicity, and high costs inherent in tradetional anticancer therapies, the identification of new compounds from natural sources, including safe and effective medicinal plants against chemoresistance and cancer, remains topical, offering promising perspectives in treating this disease. The emergence and improvement of new technologies, such as genetic techniques for the production of plant secondary metabolites, combinatorial synthesis, as well as the identification of naturally derived compounds from oncoprotective medicinal plants and their properties, make them targets for potential anticancer treatments. At the same time, due to the increased use of herbal products by cancer patients, more attention should be paid to their use in combination with anticancer agents.
