Abstract

COORDINATION OF THE 5-SULFONATE SALICYLALDEHYDE THIOSEMICARBAZONE SODIUM SALT WITH NICHEL(II) IONS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS The interactions of Ni(II) ions with 5-sulfonate salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone sodium salt (NaH2L) have been studied by UV-Vis optic method. The metal : ligand ratio in the studied complex was determined using two methods, mole ratio and continuous variation metod. NaH2L forms yellow coloured 1:1 complex with nickel(II) ions with λ max = 374 nm, which remains stable at the pH range 5.80 – 6.60. The experimental plot: absorbance of the studied complex via Ni(II) ions concentration are linear in the range concentration 6.0∙10-5 M – 1.1∙10-4 M. The logarithm of the complex formation constant was found to be 5.74. Keywords: coordinative compound, nickel, 5-sulfonate salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, molar ratio.
