Abstract

The article is dedicated to the analysis of the effectiveness of the accelerated aging method (AA) of seeds for as-

sessing the stability of tomato collection specimens and determining their longevity during ex situ conservation in active collections of the plant genetic bank. The use of this method, which consists in the incubation of seeds under increased temperature and air humidity, allows adequately modeling the impact of unfavorable environmental fac- tors and predicting their effect on seed resistance. The storage potential (SP) of seeds for their medium-term storage in the plant genetic bank was determined according to various morphophysiological parameters of tomato seeds and seedlings (germination energy and seed germination, root length, dry and wet root biomass, electrolyte yield). Tomato varieties with high and medium storage potential were identified, i.e. gradation was carried out according to this important complex indicator. The obtained results indicate that the accelerated seed ageing test allows to assess differences in resistance between different varieties of important crop species.

Keywords: seeds, tomato, accelerated ageing, germination energy, germination, electrolyte yield, storage potential.
