Abstract
Propolis is a beekeeping by-product with a high content of polyphenols that manifests antioxidant action. In this
article was conducted the comparative study of the obtained results regarding the total polyphenol content of propolis
extracts and their antioxidant activity depending on several factors: solvent concentration, extraction method. The
total polyphenol content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and the antioxidant activity by the DPPH
method. The analysis of the data revealed that the total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity is largely depended by the solvent concentration, optimal for obtaining ethanolic extracts of propolis with a high content of polyphenols, being ethyl alcohol with a concentration of 70%.
Keywords: propolis, extract, maceration, ultrasound extraction, polyphenols, Folin-Ciocalteau method, DPPH
