Abstract

Currently, increased attention is being paid to the investigation of the pathogenetic mechanisms of diabetes melli-tus and to the development of strategies aimed at ameliorating the metabolic disturbances associated with this patho-logy. Medicinal plants and phytotherapeutic preparations play an important role in this context due to their broadspectrum of biological activity and favorable safety profile. Administration of the phytopreparation SEV-3 under con-ditions of experimental diabetes contributed to the improvement of carbohydrate and water metabolism, as evidencedby a reduction in hyperglycemia, a partial increase in insulin levels, and a decrease in polydipsia and polyuria. Theobtained results demonstrated the absence of disruptive metabolic effects in healthy animals, confirming the goodtolerability of the preparation. Thus, the phytopreparation SEV-3, exerting a complex metabolic action, may be consi-dered a potential phytotherapeutic adjuvant in the correction of metabolic disturbances induced by diabetes mellitus. Keywords: alloxan-induced diabetes, phytopreparation, water, urine, glucose, insulin, complications.
