THE EFFECT OF SOME CYANOBACTERIAL BIOSTIMULANTS ON SEED GERMINATION AND GROWTH OF MENTA SPICATA L. SEEDLING

Some achievements from the last decades regarding the use of marine macroalgae by numerous authors as sources of biostimulants producers to increase the growth of crop plants and their resistance to drought and other abiotic factors are presented and analysed. Cyanobacteria, next to seaweed and microalgae, are of increased interest for applied agri-culture due to their valuable biochemical composition, as well as the ability to produce metabolites, including phytohormones, amino acids, exopolysaccharides, etc. A case study is presented assessing the effect of natural bio-stimulants, based on filtrates resulting from the cultivation of cyanobacteria Spirulina platensis and Calothrix marchica on the seeds germination and growth of aromatic plant Menta spicata L. seedlings in the first 15 days after germination.

Keywords: biostimulants, algae, cyanobacteria, filtrate, eco agriculture, phytohormones, Menta spicata seeds.
