MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES WITHIN PROTECTED AREAS AS AN ASPECT OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM Protected areas represent an important resource for the protection of a wide spectrum of unique natural values. At the same time, there is an increased demand for sustainable tourism, oriented towards visits to unaltered natural areas, which also involves protected areas as an example of such areas. To achieve a symbiosis between protection and tourist use of protected areas, certain management objectives should be addressed, based on the IUCN classification. In the background paper, the problems related to the achievement of protected area management objectives, including visitors management, and the inconveniences arising from the mismatch between categories and management objectives.
