The research was carried out in 2024 in the northern area of the country in the limestone mines near the villages
of Capresti and Barnova in August and September. The studied mines are small in size, approximately 50-60 m deep
with several lateral corridors and were studied for the first time. In both study periods, 6 species of bats belonging to
2 families were registered: Rhinolophuis hipposideros, Myotis dasycneme, M. daubentonii, M. mystacinus, Plecotus
auritus, P. austriacus. The maximum number of individuals was observed during the hibernation period. The dominant species were Myotis daubentonii and Plecotus auritus. All identified species are included in the Red Book of
the Republic of Moldova and are protected at international level. These new roosting sites are important for bats for
hibernation and as temporary summer shelter and their monitoring will continue.
