TECHNICAL TRANSLATION – COMPETENCES AND CHALLENGES

Abstract

The role of technical translators requires our attention because although they are experts in terminology, they do not translate words. They are responsible for both translating and producing a technical text ensuring an accurate and precise information transfer. Technical translation is therefore regarded as a merging point between two or several languages as well as an instant of active involvement into a team of experts drawing up a text into the target language that has the same communicative elements. This entails a debate on competences acquired by students who prepare to become technical translators.
