HOTIN COUNTY IN THE RUSSIAN STATISTICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF THE 1830s

Abstract

Based on the original archival sources found in the National Archive of the Republic of Moldova, the author analyzes the changes that occurred in the demographic and social-economic situation of the Hotin county in the 1830s. Using the statistical data gathered and systematized by the administration of Hotin county, for the years 1830, 1832, 1835 and 1836, presented to the regional administration and the imperial institutions, the author analyzes the size, distribution and composition of the population, describes the changes that occurred in the economic life of Hotin County, during this period of time.
