MANIFESTATION RELIGIOUS IDENTITY IN CONTEMPORARY

Abstract

In the current socio-cultural context in which religious activity is a matter of personal choice and free time, religious identity seems to be more unstable than ever. Most psycho-sociological research focused on studying identity during adolescence, although the process of building religious identity does not end at that age, proof being religious conversions that occur in adulthood or old age. Fluidity and negotiation religious identity is a crucial piece in understanding human religious commitment. Postmodern religious identities are often assembled to create a DIY beliefs and practices, and sociologists, anthropologists relate this phenomenon to the expansion of the media and human capacity to access a wide variety of religious information. Thus, in many situations, religious identity is reflected and shaped the technology we use, and individuals build their identity using symbols media.
