Аннотация

In the climate of communist repression in Romania in the 1980s, Ion Rațiu published a newspaper in London
that escaped both control and censorship in Romania. The articles published in it were intended to show what was
really happening in Romania, but also to be a platform for the free expression of ideas. Both the news and reports
from the country and the opinions published in the pages of Free Romanian are documentary testimonies to that
period of recent history. A large part of what is reported in Free Romanian has a correspondent in the documents of
the Securitate, which proves the relevance of their recording. The present study also shows that most of the acts of
repression had a legal basis, i.e. they were covered by the legislation of the communist state. The conclusion is that
the democratic Romanian press in exile played a decisive role in communicating the realities of communist Romania
outside its borders. It also communicated the royal messages.
