Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and assess the impact of SOx air pollution on some urban ecosystems in the Republic of Moldova. By analyzing national data on emissions/depositions of air pollutants, EMEP modeling on transboundary atmospheric SOx depositions and applying bioindication (lichenoindication) was analyzed the impact of SOx depositions on urban green species and on their structural stability and functionality. Finally, both the lichen indication method and EMEP modeling, attest that most of the studied urban ecosystems have a fragile structural stability and functionality, and their capacity to reduce the air pollution effects, conserve biodiversity and regulate ecosystem services will be dependent on the transboundary impact and the climate change effects. Keywords: atmospheric pollution, emissions, SOx, lichen indication, urban green spaces, urban ecosystems. DOI: https://doi.org/10.59295/sum1(191)2026_36
